CANCUN NIGHT LIFE

Cancun's nightlife is taking off with the rest of the island. The warm yet breezy nights are an invitation to dancing or, for the more indolent, simply sitting at an intimate bar sipping exotic drinks. The options are varied, with many popular bars and discos. Those seeking the hottest clubs need only take a cab down Kukulcan Boulevard around 10 p.m. in search of large crowds waiting for clubs to open or consult the list here and head directly to your destination.

There are other evening options, such as a dazzling dinner show at Mexico Magico theme park, a lagoon cruise on the Cancun Queen steamboat, and the Festive Ballet Folklorico.

Azucar.
One of Cancun's leading nightspots. A fantastic place to dance or just listen to first-rate tropical music. Great atmosphere, talented multi-piece bands, the works. Closed Sunday. Open 9:30 pm to 4 am.

Batacha Tropical.
A dance hall with a romantic plant-filled setting. Live salsa music. Very popular with the locals. Closed Monday. Open 10 pm to 4 am.

Carlos 'n Charlie's.
Opposite Casa maya Hotel. After dinner, there's dancung on the pier from 9 pm to 2 am.

Cassis.
Live jazz in a tropical setting. Open 6 to 11 pm.

Chamula.
Mexican decor and live music. Open 6 to 11 pm.

Christine.
A beautifully decorated disco that has been a hit since the day it opened. Very popular and chic, just like its sister discos in Ixtapa and Puerta Vallarta. Calls for trendy resortwear-no shorts or tank tops.

Dady'O.
A spectacular discotheque with tiered seating overlooking the dance floor, a dazzling laser show and the latest tunes. Popular and lots of fun. Open from 9:30 pm.

Dady Rock.
Next door to its older brother, Dady'O. A restaurant/bar featuring live rock music from 11 pm. Popular with the young set.

Hard Rock Cafe.
It needs no introduction. A huge bar, a big dance floor and wall to wall rock memorabilia. Live rock from 11 pm.

Official All-Star Cafe.
This sports theme restaurant-bar with a branch at New York's Times Square features memorabilia courtesy of such big name sports celebs such as Gretsky, Montana, and Shaquille O'Neal, as well as state-of-the-art electronic games, and video and sound system. Four bar areas, two indoors, two outdoors. Open till 2 am.

Pat O'Brian's.
This bar of New Orleans famefeatures a view of the lagoon, hefty drinks, wild decor, and great piano players - usually two at a time. Open noon to 2 am. Live music from 7 pm.

Pericos.
A latenight party place as well as a popular restaurant.

Planet Hollywood.
A restaurant-bar-boutique and "entertainment center" with a glamorous yet casual Hollywood atmosphere. Movie sound tracks and four big screens. Open 11 to 1 am.

Senor Frog's.
A popular restaurant where its always party time. Late night dancing and live reggae music.

Tequila Boom.
A video/disco and singles bar popular with young adults. Lots of fun, especially the show the waiters put on and the laser show. Video bar open from 8 pm, disco from 10:30 pm.

Up and Down.
"Up" is a cozy restaurant with an open-air terrace and discreet background music. "Down" is an ultra-modern disco for 2,000, with spectacular "Maurice 7" special effects. restaurant open 7:30 pm to midnight., disco open 9:30 pm to 5 am.
