WELCOME TO LA QUEBRADA
The fame enjoyed by Acapulco is something that has been won to a degree, by the empirical and experienced locals, who day in day out perform the marvelous and intrepid feat of cliff diving.
This is a gratuitous location is a crevice between two cliffs, where the powerful under water currents and violent waves crash together creating unbelievable turbulence which is only formed at high tide. A brave group of Acapulco residents perform a ritual that requires, not only bravery, but knowledge and technique. When one ponders this act it seems totally impossible. They dive from the top of the cliff, which is 100 ft above the water, equivalent to jumping of a 12-story building! But that is not the end of it, during the free fall of their dive, they also, must travel horizontally at least 30 ft., if they hope to avoid certain death from crashing into the jagged rocks below, (phew!).
WOW! These divers are true athletes and showmen each having his own style, performing a series of spectacular Olympic type pirouettes during their free fall, simply to please their beloved spectators. Each dive is an expression of elasticity and style, with upto three divers performing, just to show a greater virtuosity and speculate. When talking to these intrepid performers of Acapulco's most important spectacle, is to be able to get to know the hundreds of stories that have accumulated through time and to see the evidence of their scared bodies is a testimony to the skill that is required to successfully perform such a spectacular feat and reap the applause of the onlookers. The authorities have forbidden spontaneous divers from taking the plunge off the cliffs, as some previous attempts have totally unsuccessful.
The show at La Quebrada can be enjoyed at five different times during the afternoon and evening: 1 PM, 7:30 PM, 8:30 PM, 9:30 PM, and at 10:30 PM, every day. We recommend you wear comfortable clothing and that you do not wonder outside the areas that are specially marked off for the tourist.
